AYSO Region 64 Programs for Fall 2020

Welcome to the AYSO Region 64 Kids' Soccer program for the West San Jose, Moreland and nearby neighborhoods.

What's going on with the AYSO Region 64 Fall 2020 Soccer season?

Due to the ongoing effects of the COVID-19 epidemic, the Fall 2020 season has changed format to a Fall After School Soccer Camp. It will be starting the last week of August and run until the last week of October (9 weeks of training). The focus will be building soccer skills while also maintaining mandated social distancing practices.

We will be following all of the county and city requirements and guidelines for outdoor camps. Camp will have three phases. In Phase 1 (where we will start) players will be put into stable groups (called “pods”) of no more than 12 players (or the latest number that conforms to local and state guidelines). They will be taught contact-free and age appropriate soccer skills by a trained Pod Coach. Pod Coaches will operate under the supervision and support of a paid Master Coach. The camp will be supported by Pod Parents who will help check players in and out of camp. All adults on the field MUST wear masks at all times. Players (over the age of 6) will wear masks when they check into the training session and once they are in their own training area they can choose to keep their mask on or remove it. Our goal is to make training dynamic, engaging, and stimulating for your child. Even though they can’t touch one another, and they can’t high five, our coaching team has developed curriculum to make sure everyone has fun, gets some exercise, and learns a lot of soccer skills. There will be more details about these safety procedures at a later date.

If we are allowed to move into Phase 2 and 3 we will first allow contact within pods only (scrimmages with pod mates) followed by contact between pods (games between pods). We cannot guarantee this as this will depend on how the COVID19 situation evolves in our county.

Please note: Once your child joins training for a Pod they will be unable to move to another Pod because we must keep groups stable due to county guidelines.

In order to manage the number of players registered, this season, the process starts with pre-registration, which does not require any payments or commitments. Below is some information regarding the process:

  • What's the difference between 'pre-registration' and 'registration'? Pre-registration is very similar to the registration process from previous seasons in that you go through all the registration steps (i.e. provide your player's information, select the program, etc.), but you do not pay at the end. This lets us know you want your player participate in the Fall 2020 Soccer Camp. Once we are able to confirm a spot for your player in a pod, you will be notified, at which point, you can decide to complete your registration and pay. If your player had previously played with AYSO Region 64, all your previous information will already be there, so the process is very fast as you just need to confirm/update the information.
  • Is there any cost or commitment if I pre-register? No, with pre-registration, you do not pay anything until we have confirmed a spot for your player. Once you have been notified that there is a spot for your player, you still have the choice whether or not to confirm registration of your player or not. If you choose not to enroll your player at that point, you can simply decline the invitation and you will not have to pay anything or have any further obligation or commitment.
  • What if I still have questions? Email them to [email protected] and we will try and answer them as quickly and accurately as possible.

Volunteering

AYSO is a volunteer-run organization. Coaches, referees and administrators are volunteers. Over 125,000 parents, neighbors, relatives and friends lend their time and talents so that each child gets a terrific AYSO experience.  AYSO has developed special training that helps parents who may have little or no soccer experience quickly gain the age-appropriate knowledge and skills they need to be effective coaches and referees. It only takes a few hours to become qualified as an introductory-level coach or referee.

If you are interested in signing up as a Pod Coach, Pod Parent, or Board Member, you can choose this when you register your player. See the Background Checks section below for more detail.

Background Checks

The safety of the players is our primary concern.   Because of that, the following volunteer roles that involve close proximity to players require background checks to be performed when signing up to volunteer for that role:
- Pod Coach
- Pod Parent

The background check is performed by separately by an AYSO National vetted vendor as part of the registration process.

Open Recreation Program

When you register, you are asked what days (Mon-Fri) your child is available to practice during the week (for ages 6 and up).  We try and match your child to a team that meets your schedule to the extent possible, but this is not guaranteed.  The more available days you pick for your child, the faster they can be placed on a team. Teams are generally formed about a week or so before the season starts, at which point communications will be sent out regarding team detail and practice schedules.

Age Groups and Schedules

Due to county guidelines for group sizes, no spectators will be allowed and adults or siblings who wish to observe the training will need to stay away from the training area (ideally they will return to their car). We also kindly ask that non participating parents and siblings maintain good social distancing practices by wearing masks and remaining 6 feet apart from one another at all times.

All sessions for the Fall 2020 program will be held in the fields behind Hyde Middle School. The entrance to the fields will be from the gate on Disney Ave on the north side of the field.  When they enter, all players will have their temperature measured and get checked-in each practice session by a volunteer Pod Parent. Players will exit from the gate at Hyde Ave on the east side of the field at the end of their practice session.

Fall 2020 Season Registration Prices

Open Recreation Program Prices

The following table depicts the prices for the various age groups for the Open Recreation Program.  The prices shown include a non-refundable, per-player annual membership fee of $20 mandated by AYSO National and a non-refundable, per-transaction fee of $2.75. The membership fee is required to participate in any AYSO sanctioned event and covers any AYSO program within August 2020 thru July 2021, so if you register in any AYSO program in Fall 2020, you will not be charged this fee for any Spring 2021 program you register for. The per-transaction fee is charged per transaction, so if you are registering more than one player and you register them all at once (meaning you make one payment for all the registrations), you will only be charged the fee once. If you register them separately (meaning you pay for each player in a separate transaction), you will be charged the fee for each payment you make.
